It’s been a wild ride to say the least, as I am sure you have experienced as well. I am so grateful for your support during these trying times and I now want to extend to you some of the things I have been working on in the background of this pandemic. During the time when salons were asked to close, I was given an incredible gift that I don’t normally get to take advantage of…time. Suddenly, I had time to enjoy my kids, to play my guitar, to read a book, to meditate and do yoga, ride my bike and all sorts of things. I recognize that not everyone was able to enjoy what was happening, but I just stepped outside of my worries and made the best of a shitty situation. I had to keep my sanity somehow to be able to handle helping my kids with their virtual classes. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy. (Reiki.org) Although it is a beautiful support for your spiritual practice there is no dogma associated with it and you don’t have to be religious or spiritual to reap the benefits of this amazing treatment. The treatment itself typically feels like a warm glow and flows through your body and goes wherever it is needed. I got a lot of requests for a video tutorial about cleaning up our young boys or men in the house during this global pandemic while our hair salons are forced to stay closed. I did my best, recorded myself and demonstrated how I do a simple clean-up haircut to keep a style looking fresh. You will need a few things that I didn’t mention in the video. First, find an area in your home that has hard floors for easy cleaning after the haircut. Next, a barstool or chair with a low back is ideal to have no obstructions, or you can sit and have your son stand in front of you, or if they are tall, you stand and have your man stand in front of you. Then, you need a covering cape, you can use an old sheet, or bath/beach towel and drape it over their shoulders to protect them from little hairs. Alternatively, you can just have them take their shirts off and do the haircut with no cape or cover. I’ve had to do that when I forget to bring a cape home. Lastly, I would recommend that your “client” have clean fresh hair, not bed head or hat hair marks.
